(New Topics in Applied Philosophy) Cécile Fabre: Espionage through Tinted Glass / Ethics of Espionage and Counterintelligence (United Kingdom: Oxford University Press, 2022, 264.)

Abstract

In 2022, Oxford University Press in the United Kingdom published a book called Espionage through the Tinted Glass / Ethics of Espionage and Counterintelligence, Cecile Fabre. The book consists of nine chapters, an introduction, an epilogue, a bibliography and an index, and has 264 pages. At the beginning of the book is a dedication to Eric and Martin.

The first chapter, entitled "Building Blocks," sets the tone for the entire book and provides an overview of the ethics of espionage from the perspective of classical morality and political thought. The author did not use a genealogical, but a problematic approach. He tells us that espionage, along with prostitution and mercenaries, is the third oldest occupation in the world. What they have in common is that all three occupations are a necessary evil. He then takes us through examples.
