Abstract
In this paper, we will return to the ancient polis and look at what the situation was like among the citizens of Athens, which was then affected by the wave of democracy, and how the idea of education, planted just then, began to develop among its most important bearers - the sophists. We will go through the sophistic teachings and determine how the sophists influenced the development of young Athenians, and what their merit was in awarding the torch of education to anyone who could afford it, regardless of whether he was part of the aristocratic society or not. Our work will focus on pointing out the sophistic influence in the transition from classical to democratic education and highlighting new and different sciences for that period: rhetoric and political science.
